Pep Guardiola says some, but not all of Manchester City’s injured players will be able to return against West Ham United on Saturday.

Nathan Ake, Kevin De Bruyne and Aymeric Laporte all missed the midweek win over Porto, though De Bruyne and Laporte have since returned to training but Guardiola kept his cards close to his chest when asked whether the trio could feature at the London Stadium.

“Some of them will be [involved],” he said at his pre-match press conference.

“Some of them, no. You will know tomorrow.”

Fernandinho, Benjamin Mendy and Gabriel Jesus will all definitely miss our clash with the Hammers, but the City boss has been handed some positive news about the Brazilian midfielder.

The 35-year-old was forced off with a leg injury shortly after coming on against Porto and it was initially feared he would be out for up to six weeks, but Guardiola says the test results suggest he may be back sooner.

“The results were more optimistic so hopefully it will be shorter than one month,” added Pep.

“That's good for us. Being tough is good.”

John Stones replaced Fernandinho to fill the defensive midfield role in the closing stages against Porto.

It is a position he has been used in on a handful of occasions previously, but Guardiola has ruled playing the England international there in the immediate future.

“No, I see John in his position, as a central defender,” he said when asked whether Stones could plug the gap left by Fernandinho.

“In some moments when we have problems, it is another alternative but right now, I want him at centre back.”

Guardiola also confirmed that whilst Jesus’ injury situation is improving, the striker is yet to resume training with the squad and he remains unsure as to when he will be ready to return.

“He’s getting better, but it is a tough injury,” said the boss.

“Still, he cannot train with us. I know when he will start, he will be ready.

"He is a guy who gets the form back quick. I don’t know [how long]. Maybe one or two weeks.”
